Well managed information systems require the ability to have information 24/7 without concerns about availability and corruption. Technology is changing at a rapid pace and keeping your systems up to date is as critical as the products and services you sell in the marketplace. A complete understanding of the company’s infrastructure and its shortcomings is part of a proactive strategy that will provide the company and its employees with reliable tools to work with at all times.

Business Systems Projects

The IT Infrastructure Company Physical™ focuses on the following vital aspects of your computing infrastructure:

  1. Network Power and Capabilities
  2. Resilience and Ability to “Stay Up”
  3. Security and Privacy Protection
  4. Backup and Restore Capabilities (Disaster Recovery)

Network Power and Capabilities

Once computer power was confined to the mainframe, but now what matters is the network – how fast and how safely data can be accessed from servers, processed and updated on the servers. Since most networks were designed and built to meet the needs of the past and modified incrementally ever since, too often performance does not meet current business needs.

Resilience and Ability to “Stay Up”

When computer systems go “down,” costs rapidly spiral out of control. People cannot do their work, customers and vendors are inconvenienced, data may be lost or corrupted. The IT Infrastructure Company Physical assesses how modern and appropriate equipment is, how well wiring is installed and maintained, whether maintenance adheres to industry best practices, and what load-balancing and fail-over facilities are properly utilized.

Security and Privacy Protection

In this part of the physical, we look at

  1. how resistant the company computer systems are withstanding continuous attacks from viruses, worms and spam
  2. whether company privacy practices adhere to best practices
  3. how well employees protect passwords and confidential information
  4. what role encryption plays – and should play – in the company’s IT strategy

Backup and Restore Capabilities (Disaster Recovery)

The Northridge earthquake and the New Orleans flood have highlighted the importance of having a comprehensive disaster-recovery strategy. In this part of the physical we assess what needs to be preserved and what steps have been taken to ensure it survives any disaster. On a more frequent basis, however, data is susceptible disk failure, file corruption, viruses and computer worms, requiring an effective backup-and-restore policy, reinforced with regular practice and testing.

After the physical, we will provide you with a report of our findings in each of these areas. Included in that report will be a set of recommendations. The report will provide you the basis for developing on-going and sustainable continuous improvement systems in your operation.
